POLIS-EYE - Abstract data models for reconstructing and forecasting people flows

The Polis-Eye project (POLIcy Support systEm for smart citY data governancE, www.poliseye.it) was funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region as part of the POR FESR 2014-2020 program and has had the aim to developed a decision support system (Policy Support System) for supporting public decision makers, for the optimized management of Smart Cities in the tourism sector.

The main result of the project has been an open software platform created for data management, supported by descriptive and prescriptive analysis modules aimed at:

  • reconstruct flows of people
  • to correlate events (specific and atmospheric) and presences.

In order to reach this result, Polis-Eye identified three Case Studies representative of the scenarios in which the tools and results obtained by the project can be used. In these Case Studies, the sources and types of data flow useful for the reconstruction and prediction of flows of people and presences in a certain location, in correlation with meteorological events or of recreational or cultural interest, have been identified.

At the same time, the project was organized in several Phases, each one aiming to produce intermediate outcome. Here we are providing the document containing the Abstract Data Models, defined by the CROSS-TEC Laboratory with the support of the others Polis-Eye partners, which constitute the reference representation of the types of data flow output from the sources identified in the Case Studies analyzed in the first Phase of the project:

  • events: data that identifies and describes an event of recreational or cultural interest; for example: place and day/time (or period) of development, theme, category, etc.
  • attendance: data on the presence of people or means of transport, in a given spatial and temporal location
  • transits: data relating to the transit of persons or means of transport, detected in a route in a certain period of time
  • weather conditions: data on actual weather conditions (historical data or current conditions).

The Abstract Data Models defined in the document are described in the following chapters of this report and are:

  • Abstract Data Model for Attendance Data Flow Type
  • Abstract Data Model for the Transit Data Flow Type
  • Abstract Data Model for event Data Flow Type
  • Abstract Data Model for Weather Data Flow Type

Polis-eye, Technical report, milestone M5.1 - O5.2 (English language)

Phase 1 of Polis-Eye has identified three Case Studies representative of the scenarios in which the tools and results obtained by the project can be used. In these Case Studies, the sources and types of data flow useful for the reconstruction and prediction of flows of people and presences in a certain location, in correlation with meteorological events or of recreational or cultural interest, have been identified.
This document contains the Abstract Data Models, defined by the CROSS-TEC Laboratory with the support of the Polis-Eye partners, which constitute the reference representation of the types of data flow output from the sources identified in the Case Studies analyzed in Phase 1.
